Upper Canyons - Rio Grande - 2006

About 10 years since I last experienced the magic of the upper canyons of the Rio Grande, I decided that we would be paddling this section of the river. This is the report of our 2006 Thanksgiving trip.

Notes from my switch to Windows 7 from Windows XP. A good experience overall, but not without its own gotchas, trials, and tribulations. Applied to computers that I build from scratch, and always loaded from a solid non-OEM retail (or preferably VLP) distribution.

Instant messaging is "interruptive e-mail", or chat. But you probably already knew that. I've used several of the many clients including Trillain Basic and Pro as well as Pidgin (formerly GAIM) and now Miranda. This focuses on the Miranda instant-messaging client.

Boquillas Canyon - Rio Grande - 2009

Our goal was to paddle Boquillas Canyon of the Rio Grande over Thanksgiving week, hiking some along the way. We were successful, but it was a tad more of an adventure than I originally expected. On the evening of Sunday, Nov 22, 2009, our group of 10 folks — 6 males, 4 females; some married, some family, others unrelated other than a love for the river — gathered at Rio Grande Village to begin our week-long expedition. While most seem to think this canyon is a 3-day trip, we planned on 5-1/2 days to allow for some hiking and a layover day on Thanksgiving.

Notes and documentation for me specifically for writing code on XOOPS. This is NOT an exhaustive list, rather for those things I've done and want to reference. If it's of interest to everyone, then I'll contribute it to the XOOPS site.

Article - XOOPS News/Blogs Module

The Article module (often confused with the less-robust Articles module) seems to be a very robust XOOPS module for article management for news, blogs and magazine style sites. It has fine permissions and workflow control as well as robust capabilities, blocks, and such. This module is a must have for managing news, blogs, and other time-based content.
